Buckle Up for Safety
by Molly, Brennan, Autumn, and Megan
When deciding which story topic to choose, we all thought that using Dori and Alexis' story about their car crash would be a good example of seatbelt safety. We feel that it’s always important to wear your seatbelt, and stories like this one can help other people value seatbelt use just as much as we do.
During their interviews, they explained that were on their way to school when they got into the crash. Dori was wearing her seatbelt, but Alexis wasn’t. Their interviews flowed together well and really brought home the importance of buckling up.
The script-writing process was super easy since the story fell into a perfect chronological order. Once we finished writing the script and doing the backtime, it was time to start editing.
Laying out the interview shots was easy, but the hardest part was b-roll. We had limited pictures of their injuries (and no picture of the crashed car), so we had to get creative. MT, our adviser, helped us cut down the story so there was enough b-roll to fit the interview shots.
In the end, we feel that the story turned out pretty well. We hope that it brings awareness to the importance of seatbelt safety and makes an impact on teenagers. Remember to buckle up and arrive alive.
