I can’t stand bandwagoners. It’s a huge epidemic among all major professional and collegiate sports. Heck, even some would say it happens on the high school level, too.
I feel like even the players are bandwagoners sometimes. For example, when they are on a team, but then leave that team for a better team. Perhaps they jump ship to make the team they are joining even better? The reasons vary.
It can be a disaster when a team's whole franchise centered around that certain player. Just think of Ozzie Smith. That's a name that goes hand-in-hand with the St. Louis Cardinals. If he had jumped on the bandwagon of another team, that would have been a horrible situation for St. Louis. The same can be said of Larry Bird with the Boston Celtics and Magic Johnson of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bandwagoning, in my opinion, has ruined sports in so many ways, especially the NBA. There’s almost no competitiveness between teams because everyone likes the same few teams.
I love debating the pros and cons to each team, but it is really annoying when everyone likes the same team. I can only discuss one team with them. It limits our discussions and makes me wonder if they realize other teams exist.
In the NBA, teams are gaining basketball stars, but they only go to a few of the teams. It makes the league so boring. There’s no competition for these super teams that are being built with all the standouts. I fear there’s only going to be a few good games a year where there's an actual competition on the court.
I just hope someday people will realize the affect this has on the fun and competition. Maybe they can find a way to change it. I know I can't be alone in my thoughts. Other people must notice this, too! I really feel that the current trend of bandwagoning in sports is really just ruining the competition and even the amount of money franchises are making.
