Community Rallies For Stephanie
I was immediately drawn to a story topic on Stephanie Lindemann and her fight with cancer. I decided to take the angle of how the community has come together to support her and her family.
Earlier this year, WHS Project Lead the Way held a blood drive to benefit Steph. More recently, WHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes held a “Steph’s Night” fundraiser to raise money for the Lindemann family. I was moved by these kind gestures, and proud of both Borgia and Washington for coming together to support Stephanie along her journey. I knew that this had to be the focus of my story.
I started by interviewing Mrs. Williams. Her Project Lead the Way class organized the blood drive. Next, I interviewed Payton and Emma, the FCA chairs for Steph’s Night at WHS. I thought it would be a good idea to interview someone who was close to Steph, which brought me to Lydia and Samantha. They were more than happy to meet me in order to share how Stephanie’s journey has affected them. They were both grateful for the sense of community that has brought the cross-town rival schools together.
I had a great time producing this story and am very proud of how it turned out!
