CPR in Missouri Public Schools
by Megan, Morgan, and Molly L
How does a story about adoption turn into a CPR story? Here’s how: after being shot down by many people for our adoption story, we decided to take another look at our story topic options. From there, we chose to cover the new CPR requirements in Missouri public schools.
We first interviewed WHS Assistant Principal, Mary Kleekamp, who was very knowledgeable about the topic. She gave us a good guideline of what the law was and what the students learn. We then interviewed two WHS students who support these new guidelines. They gave us some good opinions.
We were lacking B-roll, so we headed to Four Rivers Career Center to film the Health Occupations students performing CPR. We also filmed some freshman Health classes and got some footage of their textbooks that outline CPR and Heimlich Maneuver guidelines.
After collecting all of our footage, we moved on to the script. Writing the script was simple, and editing was a breeze.
Although it was difficult at the beginning, we found ways to overcome obstacles and make our news story stellar. We hope you enjoy!
