Often, people are quick to assume that a four-year university is the only option after graduation. While that may be the path I plan to take, college isn’t for everyone. There are several options that may interest a soon-to-be high school graduate.
Our school offers students the chance to attend Four Rivers Career Center. Students become trained and certified to move straight into their field of study right after high school graduation. Some students also take advantage of the program offered at the Early Childhood Learning Center where they assist teachers and take care of children for a block of their school day. Through Early Childhood Careers, they are able to earn a certification that grants them access to work at a preschool among graduation of high school.
Looking at options besides programs offered at our school, there are also trade colleges. This may be a choice open to many people looking to go into a certain job. Trade schools train you for that specific area and are much more hands on than your typical university, which is how some people enjoy learning.
I think people should stop assuming that college is the only option right out of high school when there are so many more opportunities that they may not even know about. If you are one of those people, explore the possibilities! Educate yourself.
