by Molly E and Megan
The secretary at Four Rivers Career Center contacted our adviser about an interesting welding student named Joyce Brown. She suggested we do a story about her, so we went for it!
We first contacted her via email and waited anxiously for her response. After we heard back from her, we set up an interview with her at the St. Clair Senior Center.
The minute we met her, we knew she was going to be an interesting character. We originally were going to just ask her about taking classes at Four Rivers Career Center, but we quickly learned there was way more to Joyce’s story. After talking to her, we decided that her life story was so interesting that we wanted to make that the main focus of the story.
We quickly slated and logged her interview, but had trouble writing the script. Since there was so much of her life that she shared with us, we were not for sure what we should put in the story. After talking, we decided we should make it a brief review of her interesting life, ending the story with her taking welding classes at Four River Career Center.
Molly was able to get pictures of Joyce, while Megan went to Four Rivers to film b-roll of the welding class. Joyce’s pictures made the start of the story really personal. They showed a different side of her that you wouldn’t see by just watching the interview.
The story in general is all about surprises and taking risks in life. We like surprises and the advice she gives. We hope you like the story just as much as we do!
