When you think about it, getting involved honestly sounds kind of scary, but I promise you, it’s not! The transition from middle school to high school is exciting, yet nerve racking. It's also a great time to start getting involved with different activities and clubs. High school is a time to really find out about yourself and who you are. You can do that by GETTING INVOLVED.
Here's a tip: focus on the different things you like and find interesting. Then, find out more about them by getting involved with clubs and classes that focus on those areas. By exploring what you are interested in, you can figure out if this is what you are meant to do with your life.
Looking back on my freshman year, I wish I would have gotten more involved and done more things than I had. I was shy and timid freshman year. I didn’t really know what to expect from high school, but take my advice, do anything possible to get involved.
In the past two and a half years of high school, I have made some of my closest friends by stepping out of my comfort zone.
One of the big ways I have stepped out of my comfort zone is joining BJJTV. In the past, BJJTV interested me (see my tip!) and I thought it would be fun to be in the class. Last year, I took Intro to Mass Media, then I filled out the application to join, and luckily I got in!
Joining any club, taking a special class, or even going to sporting events are great ways to get involved! Getting involved and putting yourself out there is definitely scary, but in the end you won’t regret it.
Here's one last tip: don’t wait until the last couple years of high school to start getting involved. Do it as soon as possible so you can make the most of your high school experience!
