Ever since I discovered Hamilton the Musical, I became a major fan of Lin. He has become a major icon this past year. He created a musical from such an important time in American history and put a modern twist on it: hip hop.
Hamilton takes place before the American Revolution. It’s a musical that portrays the life of Alexander Hamilton, a “bastard orphan” who became a “hero and a scholar” and one of our Founding Fathers.
Words cannot describe how much I admire this Lin. Through this one musical, he inspired me to chase after my life-long dream: to be on Broadway.
Ever since I was a little girl, I was involved in almost every musical I could be. I have been involved in theatre for so long and I loved the way I felt when I was performing on stage. Realistically, I thought that I was not talented enough to make it on Broadway, but Hamilton completely changed that for me.
There is a song in the show called “My Shot” that talks about how Hamilton rose up from poverty and is working to make America a better country. He sings so passionately about how he isn’t going to throw away his shot at making a difference. This is what I aim to achieve.
After listening to this musical almost every day for the past six months, I have come to the decision to pursue my dreams of majoring in musical theatre and eventually performing on Broadway.
I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to write or perform in something as wonderful as Hamilton, but none of us knows what the future holds.
(P.S. As I am writing this blog, I have been listening to the soundtrack of the musical and I highly recommend you do as well!)
