Molly's Spring Break Adventure!
by Molly L
When I found out I would be traveling to Europe over spring break, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to document my trip for my backpack story. I took a digital camera along with me and attempted to capture my trip to the best of my abilities.
Our first stop was Paris, France. Paris was such a beautiful city, and it was hard to completely capture its beauty. I visited a lot of famous museums, the Eiffel Tower, and took a day trip to the Palace of Versailles. At times, it was difficult to capture footage, because a lot of the museums and tourist attractions we visited were very crowded, and people would bump into me or walk into my shot. Overall, I ended up getting enough footage to encapsulate what we did in Paris.
Our next stop was Barcelona, Spain. I absolutely loved Barcelona; it was a beautiful city contained by mountains on one side, and the Mediterranean Sea on the other. My older sister is studying abroad in Barcelona for the semester, so she knew all of the cool attractions and could translate spanish for us. The food was amazing and inexpensive, and the city was very relaxing. I didn’t expect to love Barcelona as much as I did, and I definitely would love to travel to Spain again to spend more time there.
The last stop on our trip was London, England. It was very nice to finally visit a city with english as the first language. The British were extremely friendly and accommodating, and I felt right at home. London was very crowded as well, so capturing footage was difficult at times. I was able to see two musicals in the West End, “The Book of Mormon”, and “Motown: The Musical.” I wasn’t able to include either in my story because taking photos or videos in the theatres was prohibited, even before or after the show started. I absolutely loved London, and I was sad to go home and return to reality.
When I got home, I faced the challenge of editing my footage into a story that is under two and a half minutes. I had an excess of footage, and I had to leave some parts out to fit it into my story. I included the bigger and more historical tourist attractions we visited, and left out some of the smaller things we did.
I am so grateful to have experienced this trip, and I am very glad I have an outlet like Blue Jay Journal TV to share it with you. I hope you enjoy my story and feel like you took the trip with me!
