WHS Cheer and Dance
For my first back pack story, I wanted to tell a meaningful story over a topic that didn’t necessarily get much recognition at our school. I quickly decided to produce a story about both the Jaywalkers dance team and the Varsity Cheer team because they both made it to Nationals this year.
To get information about the dance team, I interviewed Molly Landolt. She gave me information about Nationals and the requirements that they had to go through. Then, I interviewed Payton Owens. She explained how nerverakking Nationals was this year and she stressed the importance of their weekly practices.
For the Cheer team, I first interviewed Emily Groppe. She explained how they qualified for Nationals. Next, cheerleader Jaden Heien added in that this competition wasn’t as difficult as one would first expect.
After I finished my interviews, I gathered b-roll footage from basketball and football games of the Jaywalkers and Cheer team performing. Then, I asked some of the dancers and cheerleaders for pictures of them at Disney. I was also able to use some fun pictures off of social media.
This story ended up being extra long because I chose to tell so much about both of these great teams. I could’ve shortened it a bit, but because I liked the message and all of the information that these girls told me, I decided to pack it all in.
Long story long, I really liked the way that it turned out and I hope you do, too. It gives both groups a little more of the limelight and recognition for their hard work.
