A Desk Fit for a Principal!
by Jaden, Brennan, and Colleen
At first, our team wasn’t exactly sure why covering a story on vice-principal Mr. Shawn Wallace’s desk was even on the topic list. None of us had ever heard anything about it. Well, we were sure in for a treat!
As we learned more about this desk that was built completely by hand, we knew this was an amazing story. We were excited to get started on it!
Made from a 1950 Dodge pick-up, this desk is unlike any other in our building. Mr. Wallace actually had owned the truck that it’s made from since he was about 15 years old.
He shared with us the history of the truck and his inspiration for the desk over a really great interview. Mr. Wallace answered our questions fully and we had no issues when it came to sorting out what we wanted in the story and what we wanted to draw importance to.
Writing the script went really well, as we already had an introduction planned out and a sequence of how we wanted to story to flow.
After we got our script approved, we were ready to check out all of the b-roll that we grabbed while doing the interview. We had a couple of formatting issues with the memory card and had to go back to gather more footage, but overall we had a good variety of shots that showed off the desk. All the visuals went along really well with our sound-bites and voice overs.
Editing was a long process because we had so much footage. We had issues cutting it down to fit our time goal. We had to lose a few elements in order to tell the story in a clear and concise way, but we were really happy with how everything had turned out.
The finished project looked great all together and we hope you enjoy this story surrounding a super-fun desk built by one creative man!
