Allergies - How Students Cope
by Matthew and Cassidy
When choosing our story topic, we were indecisive about what topic we wanted to cover. After we looked into a couple possibilities for our story, we finally decided on allergies and how they affect people in our community.
We asked a few of our classmates if they knew of any students at WHS that had food allergies. They gave us a few names: Ryan Hill and Jack Lackman. We did have a small problem with our interview of Ryan. We had a few issues with background interruptions, so we had to cut some of the shots down and cover the cuts with some b-roll.
We also thought it would be beneficial to interview one of the school nurses, Molly Lynchard, to get a different point of view on allergies. She explained how an allergic reaction occurs and showed us how to use an epipen.
At first, we had trouble getting enough b-roll, but we were able to come through. We enjoyed getting a new insight on allergies and allergic reactions. We also learned a lot from Nurse Molly Lynchard about preventing and treating allergic reactions.
We hope that our story is helpful to everyone who watches it. Even if you do not have allergies, odds are you are near people who do have them. It's always helpful to be aware in case you need to get help.
