Developmental Services of Franklin County
by Autumn, Kate, and Jaden
Creating stories with depth and emotion is always our goal in Blue Jay Journal TV. We knew as soon as we heard about Developmental Services that we would be able to run with the information gathered to tell their story.
Developmental Services covers a wide range of services for those with disabilities in Franklin County. They do not focus on just one age group. They work with individuals with disabilities of all ages. We were really excited to be able to share all of the great things that they do.
We set up an interview with Dennis Kramme. He is one of the main coordinators. He was able to give us some great information about all that they do on a day-to-day basis. He also went in-depth about the history and the overall impact on the community.
We also interviewed an occupational therapist, Clara Wilson. She works hands on with children in their Early Intervention Program to teach cognition, speech, and other skills that they may need help developing.
As we slated and logged the interviews, we were able to get a feel for what direction we wanted the story to go in. With the help of some pictures and some really great b-roll, it all came together really nicely after some brainstorming and some creativity. We were at times assisted by our adviser, Ms. Turner because we kind of got lost in the process and came to a dead end at one point. She was able to pull us out of that slump and get back to the whole point, telling the story of Developmental Services.
We hope you enjoy this story. Maybe it will inspire you to lend a hand and volunteer!
