We wanted to cover the topic of dropping out of high school. We felt that it was an issue that deserved to be explored from both perspectives.
We chose to interview Kelly Richard, one of our guidance counselors, about the negatives of dropping out. She gave a lot of good feedback and eye-opening pieces of advice. On the flip side, we interviewed Trinity Kuper. She is a former WHS student who dropped out during her junior year. She shared the benefits of dropping out with us.
This story was fun to work on because it gave two very different perspectives about dropping out. Trinity was a great interviewee because she is an example of somebody who didn't get a high school diploma, but still achieved personal success. She recently started a family and got married. She has been both happy and financially stable ever since.
Although dropping out is not a choice to jump into right away, in certain instances Trinity feels it can change someone's life around for the better instead of for the worse. Trinity's personal story really made this story unique.
Although this story turned out to be a good one, there were some obstacles in the process of producing it. Getting b-roll was a struggle, because working around both our schedules along with Trinity's schedule was difficult. Unfortunately, we weren't able to get any footage of her husband and their baby.
Aside from getting sufficient b-roll, the rest of the process went pretty smoothly. All in all, we are happy with the way it turned out, and we hope you enjoy it!
