Did you know that depression during pregnancy affects one in seven, approximately 15 percent, of women across the country? Also, are you aware that as many as 50 to 75 percent of new mothers experience some form of the postpartum blues? These are such shocking and saddening, statistics that I asked myself what I could do to help. Luckily, an opportunity to make a difference presented itself in March.
When challenged to “try something new,” the option to donate products to our local Pregnancy Assistance Center immediately jumped out at me. The Pregnancy Assistance Center is a non-profit organization which provides support services, medical care, and resources to women facing difficult or unexpected pregnancies. They work to assist their clients immediate and ongoing needs, relying on appreciative donations from generous individuals, churches, and some businesses to fit their needs. From formula to diapers, donations are always appreciated!
With donations of baby wipes and lotion in hand, I drove across town to Washington’s Pregnancy Assistance Center. I was greeted by a kind lady at the front desk, who gladly accepted my donation. She was extremely appreciative!
Great opportunities to help others and give back to the community are presented to us every day. So, step out of your comfort zone, and find out how you can help others in need!
Just knowing that my seemingly small (in comparison to the issue at hand) donation would be used by a family needing those very items, put a smile on my face as I pulled out of the parking lot.
Don’t be afraid of something new and give back! :)
Until next time!
