Girls and Boys State
Every year each student in Blue Jay Journal TV gets the opportunity to produce one story entirely on their own. When it came time for me to make mine, I knew what topic would be great for it: Boys State. After a suggestion from our adviser, Michelle Turner, I finalized the topic to include Girls State as well.
Going into the story, I had an advantage because I attended Boys State. I already had some background knowledge.
I set up interviews with current WHS students who were a part of the program last year. After interviewing them, I slated and logged the footage. Then, it was time to write the script. Once that was all done, I went to work in the editing room. I laid out the interviews and voice overs. I added in some b-roll I got during the interviews. I quickly realized I did not have enough b-roll, so I asked the Robinson twins for some pictures. I also gathered some pictures from the Boys State website.
Finally, I sat down with MT, and she helped me perfect it as we looked it over together. After fiddling with some audio levels and scale size, the story was finished.
I hope you enjoy the story as much as I did creating it. I am proud of this story and how it came out. Hopefully, viewers will now get a better understanding of what Boys and Girls State is.
