When beginning our story, we started with the broad topic of fighting hunger in our community. After trying to narrow it down, we decided to focus on the Harvest Table since Eric had volunteered in the past and Natalie is a member of the church that hosts this. Quickly, we were able to find people who were eager to talk about the organization.
To start the story, we first interviewed Ann Loesing. Although she is a volunteer, she had a lot of helpful information to share with us. She felt that the Harvest Table is an amazing organization for the people in need in our community.
After emailing the organizers of the Harvest Table, we were able to plan when we would shoot b-roll and conduct interviews. Natalie was able to attend the event. She faced some difficulties when trying to shoot b-roll due to the fact that we were not allowed to film the guests for privacy reasons. Another difficulty was trying not to get in the way of the hardworking volunteers. Despite the hardships, we were able to get b-roll of the volunteers, the meal preparation, clothing donations, and the overall event.
It was essential to interview Karen Dawson, president and a founder of the Harvest Table. Karen ended up being a key part of our story. Before interviewing her, we were not aware of the other benefits and resources they provide, like flu shots and clothing, in addition to the meal they serve the guests.
Just by the way she spoke, anyone could see that Karen is passionate about the organization and helping others. All of her answers were sincere and informative. She was a wonderful person to interview.
Lastly, we interviewed a teen volunteer, Lauren Dowil. Her interview was short and sweet, but she was able to tell us about the Harvest Table from a teen's perspective. She was happy to help the people in need in our community.
We are proud to be able to share this story with our viewers. We hope the story not only makes you feel better about our community, but inspires you to help people in need.
