Human Rights and Genocide Class at WHS
by Payton, Brennan, Emma D, and Adina
When our team first met for brainstorming, we immediately agreed that we wanted to cover Mrs. Kerri Flynn’s Human Rights & Genocide class.
Everyone on our team had some sort of experience with this class. Either they had taken it themselves, or had friends who had taken the class. From first-hand experience, we all felt that this was a hard-hitting topic that more people should learn about.
Along with that, we knew that a trip to areas where the Holocaust had happened took place this past summer. We knew many students who took this trip and loved the experience.
For interviews, we started off with Maria Ruth, a junior that had been a part of the group that went on the trip. After that, we interviewed Mrs. Kerri Flynn. She ended up giving us so much information and so many ideas for how to tell this story. Lastly, we interviewed Kade Uetz, a senior, who took a different class with Mrs. Flynn and decided take Human Rights and Genocide because of how big of an impact she had on him.
For b-roll, we filmed a lot of Mrs. Flynn teaching and had many pictures included from the trip.
From there, we slated and logged our footage to decide which soundbites to use in the script we wrote. After that, we were able to sit down and edit our story. The editing process seemed to fly by because we entered the edit bay prepared.
We loved creating this story. Not only did we learn about producing a video, we learned more about an important class at WHS that covers events in our history that shouldn't be forgotten.
P.S. We also hope that everyone will want to take this class and learn from Mrs. Kerri Flynn!
