Improve Your Photography

Our team was intrigued by this statistic: 1 billion people with cameras/phones take approximately 1 trillion photos each year.
With so many photographs being taken yearly, how can people make their images stand out above the rest? We were very interested in how we could give people tips on taking better photos.
We thought of people to interview and McKenzie Dohm immediately came to mind. McKenzie is known around WHS for her photography work. We then thought of WHS Junior Grace Reinken. She also has a photography page on Instagram, her own website, and a job at a wedding venue. We also emailed WHS Alumni, Dana Marquart, who owns Photogenics on Location in downtown Washington. She was extremely happy to help us out and let us interview her, too. All three interviews went well and all of the ladies talked about different things, which was really great in giving our story different points of view.
B-roll wasn't too hard to obtain for this story. Grace and McKenzie both told us we could use photos that they have taken, which was super helpful. Also, after Dana Marquart’s interview, she let us video her studio and some of the pictures that she had there, as well as her working with her camera.
We had a lot of really good soundbites to choose from which made writing the script go very smoothly. When laying out the story, it went fairly easy. We were lucky to get b-roll of Dana taking pictures at her studio as well as photos that all the women have taken. The editing process went very quickly and smoothly.
Overall, we had a really good experience working together to produce this story. The idea came together very well and we had a great time doing it! We are hopeful that this will help our viewers improve their photography.
