Throughout time the show has brought up a lot of controversy, due to its "hold nothing back" approach towards womens' prisons. While a fictional TV show will never truly depict life behind bars for women in America, this show's creators do a very good job at making you feel like you understand the struggles that come along with committing crimes without actually committing them.
Some people often speak out about the offensiveness of many show watchers saying, "Orange is the New Black makes me want to go to prison", simply because it really does not show every aspect of prison life. The show also uses a lot of humor and 'TV magic' to make it appeal to viewers. If this show didn't have a new story of drama between inmates or something to lighten the mood every episode, I'm sure it wouldn't have such a following.
When I first began this show two summers ago, I was skeptical only because I had never really watched anything like it. By the third episode, I was hooked. The actresses and actors in this show do such a good job at getting into character, it's hard to imagine them wearing anything other than an orange jumpsuit or security guard attire. Overall, the acting is really good and definitely not something I would expect from something produced by Netflix.
This show is seriously worth watching. Some people praise it to the point where it might be considered a religion. If that doesn't say something about its quality, I don't know what will! If you haven't taken the time to sit back and begin watching this award-winning tv series, do so now! You will not regret it.
