Since the funeral, we have talked about it and reminisced a number of times. Every time the day is brought up, my great grandma says to me, “the only thing that got me through that day was hearing you recite the Lord’s Prayer at the top of your lungs.”
At the time of his passing, I had recently memorized the Lord’s Prayer and was extremely proud of myself. Every chance I got, I would shout the Lord’s Prayer. That day, I didn’t give it any thought. It didn’t ever cross my mind that what I was doing may have affected the people around me, but it did.
I often wonder how I might have affected other people’s lives and not even known about it. I think about how many small things people have done that left a huge impact on me, and that they may not have even known it.
I hope to influence others during my lifetime by being a role model, activist, advocate, and mentor. I plan to study journalism in college and pursue a career in reporting. I want to help people with my journalism. I want to be a voice for the public and impact people in ways I won't even know of.
If someone has impacted your life in a way they may not know they did, I have a job for you. Tell them. Send them a thank you letter or just talk to them in person. I’m sure people would love to know how they affected you without even trying to.
