Let's Go, Blues!
by Megan Duncan
Over the summer of 2019, I wanted to improve my TV skills so I would be better prepared for the upcoming school year. My adviser allowed me to take a camera, tripod, and iMac home to produce a story.
I was lost for ideas, but I wanted to use this opportunity to produce something great. The moment of inspiration struck when I was watching the news one day after work. I saw an advertisement for a “Watch Party” in downtown STL for the final game of the Stanley Cup. The perfect opportunity was right in front of me! I grabbed some friends, a Blues shirt, and a camera. Then, I headed to St. Louis.
With over 60,000 people in one space, I was a little overwhelmed about who all I should interview. I thought it was best to get a variety of people. In the end, I interviewed six people and got some great insight into both the environment and the excitement for the big game.
After the interviews, I was able to get lots of b-roll of people walking around downtown. I even saw people who were dancing in anticipation for the game. It was so interesting to see everyone come together!
After the Blues took home the Stanley Cup, I knew this story was going to be great! So, I started editing and piecing clips together. The process was easy because I already had a vision for what I wanted the story to look like! Some other staff members also contributed to the editing process over the summer. A few of them joined me at my house so I could show them how Final Cut Pro works on the iMac.
I am really excited about how this story turned out. I had so much fun making it, and it was such a great experience. It gave me a chance to not only learn about hockey, but also the community of hockey fans that supported the team. Let’s go, Blues!
