It’s good to have things you believe in, whether religious, political, or social issues. Having those ideals shapes who you are as a human being and you should never be ashamed of that.
Standing up for your beliefs in the face of oppression, even in difficult situations, says a lot about your character. It shows that you have the capability of speaking your mind and not caring about what other people may think of you.
With all of the changes in America recently, one can see that clashing ideas can lead to backlash. I’ve seen it happen in my own town. Now, I don’t condone the violence or the hatred from both sides, but if you’re passionate about certain issues like I am (i.e. Black Lives Matter, #noDAPL, Women’s March, feminism, cultural appropriation, etc.) then you have a right to speak about it.
No matter what, there are going to be critics. Someone will disagree with your opinion and argue about it. You just have to be well-spoken, hold your head up high, and stand for what you believe in.
It’s good to have strong core beliefs. It makes you who you are and there’s nothing to be ashamed about that, no matter what anyone says. You can be strong, confident, and nothing can stand in your way.
