New Weight Room and Wrestling Facilities at WHS
by Payton and Jack
We decided to report on the new weight room and wrestling room. We were interested in this topic because it was exciting for students and coaches to get these new additions.
For our interviews we chose Bill Deckelman, Grant Young, and Josh Ohm. They were all involved in the process of designing and putting together the new facilities. Because of their hard work, WHS students are enjoying the benefits.
Athletic Director Bill Deckelman was very involved with the process. He dealt with the companies who designed and brought in the equipment. He said that he would suggest basic ideas for designs and they would execute them.
Wrestling Coach Josh Ohm gave a lot of insight on the wrestling room. The wrestling team needed more space to practice, and after many years of waiting, they finally got a space they are excited to practice in. The room has a padded floor, pull up bars, and dummies, which help the kids practice moves without a partner.
Coach Grant Young works with basketball and softball players. He also teaches weight training, Health, and other Physical Education classes. He explained that whenever they were drawing the designs for the weight room, the facility needed to hold as many students as possible. That is where the current RAC system comes from.
After the interviews, we slated and logged the footage to select the best soundbites for the story. From there, we wrote the script.
When we began editing the video, it was pretty easy to piece together all the interviews. We then laid in b-roll showing kids using the equipment and shots of the decked-out wrestling room. Thanks to our interviewees we had lots of info, and had no trouble telling the story.
Producing this story helped us understand the process of getting the new weight room and wrestling room, and the impact they have on the school. It's our hope this story helps viewers gain the same understanding. Facility upgrades, such as these, help students succeed in many ways.
