Spring Break Comes to WHS
This story is my very first backpack story. For those who aren't familiar, a backpack story is when you complete a story on your own. Although I didn't have any teammates with me to divide the work, I was ready to tackle this task.
First, I tried to take the angle of what are people doing for Spring Break. However, I could not find anyone that had made plans for our first-ever Spring Break in March. So I decided to take a different angle.
A lot of people were curious about why we actually have a spring break this year, so I decided to find out. I emailed Dr. Kelle McCallum and asked if I could interview her. She informed me that Assistant Principal, Mr. Joseph Dierks, would be the one to interview because he is on the calendar committee.
After I interviewed him, I interviewed Dr. Judy Straatmann who is the head of the calendar committee. Both of them were strong interviews and answered the questions many of us had about our new Spring Break.
B-roll was a bit of a challenge, but I figured out how to make it flow well. Since so much of the story focuses on the calendar committee, it only made sense to include footage of calendars.
This story really came together well and I am really pleased with the outcome. I hope you enjoy it, and I also hope you learn more about how our Spring Break came to be.
