The Alsop Family
Every family has its own unique qualities. When I was assigned my backpack story, I instantly thought of the Alsops. The Alsops are one of the most artisically gifted families I've ever met.
I am an artistic and musical person myself, so I was excited to work on this story. I knew it would make for a great topic because of everything the Alsops have been a part of.
Kimberly Alsop is a wonderful artist, and has featured her work in multiple events and contests. John and Jakob Alsop are both incredible musicians with each having the ability to play over four instruments.
With their combined teamwork, John and Kim decided to turn a pole barn into the home they live in now. My favorite part about creating this story was being able to film everything that their house has to offer. From an art studio, various murals on every wall, and artwork to various instruments displayed throughout their home, getting b-roll footage was easy.
Although filming the footage was easy, I had some technical difficulties along the way. A light kit wasn't working when I tried to set up one of the interviews, so I had to go back a different day. I had to re-interview Jake Alsop due to background noise that I hadn't noticed before.
However, those issues were not my biggest obstacle with the story. Because this family has so many things to offer and talk about, I had to do some major editing.
After laying out all the clips and footage, the story's total running time was over five minutes. I had to chop it down a lot, and eventually I got it down to a little over two minutes and 45 seconds. With that being said, there was a bit of information I wasn't able to include for the sake of time.
Although I have faced some challenges, I am extremely happy with my final product. I hope you enjoy hearing the Alsop's story as much as I did!
