Turkey Tournament - A WashMO Tradition
by Natalie Oesterly, Kaden Meyer,
Emma Duncan, and Molly Tinkey
As Franklin County citizens, we’ve been hearing about the Turkey Tournament our whole lives. When we were given the story prompt of tradition, we felt the Turkey Tournament best represented tradition in our community.
Gathering people to interview was easy, but the background noise of the tournament made it difficult at times to get clear soundbites. From coaches, players, and spectators, everyone had something good to say about the tournament.
We were able to get plenty of b-roll at the tournament although some of our members were out of town due to Thanksgiving. The crowd was filled with supporters and fans of all ages, leading us to great shots of cheering spectators. Tensions ran high during the games we filmed, making for intense shots of basketball.
When we returned to school from Thanksgiving break, we got started on the paperwork. It took a while to slate and log our footage due to the multitude of interviews we had gotten, but everything flowed smoothly from there. We had plenty of great soundbites from our interviewees, so script writing and editing were a breeze.
We had so much fun producing this story and reflecting on an important tradition in our community. We hope you enjoy learning about this Franklin County tradition.
