What's in Your Lunch Box?
by Natalie Oesterly and Anna McFarland
We wanted to produce a story that was fun and unique. So, we decided to dive into some of our fellow students’ lunchboxes to find out what they pack for lunch.
When choosing who our interviewees would be, we wanted to make sure to get a variation of lunch-box-bringers. Hugh Steinman and Ava Kelly were great students to interview because they brought their lunches due to food allergies. However, Maddie Frankenberg, Emily Hahne, and Seth Roewe choose to bring their lunch because of lifestyle and food preferences.
They were all very good sports about the interviews. Considering it’s not the most comfortable thing to ask someone if we can look in their lunchbox and film them eating, they all did a wonderful job!
When it came to getting b-roll for our story, we wanted to film our interviewees enjoying their favorite foods from their lunch boxes. However, we still wanted to incorporate the cafeteria into our story, so we filmed more students enjoying their lunches there.
Having a fun topic like this made for an enjoyable script writing and video editing process. We really enjoyed putting this story together and getting to talk to our peers about something that many people can relate to. We may all participate in similar habits, but our reasoning is specific and unique to each person.
We are proud and excited to share with our audience the finished product. If you are a frequent lunch-box-bringer, tweet us @BlueJayJournal a picture of you with your favorite snack.
