WHS Band - New Director, New Show
by Faith and Megan
We chose to cover the Marching Blue Jays for a number of reasons. First, the new halftime show is extremely well put together and inspirational. Along with a new show, there were also a lot of new band members. Freshmen were put on the field this year, so there are now 180 marchers total. Also, the new band director, Ryan Lovell, has done a wonderful job. For all those reasons, and more, we felt that it was necessary to tell their story.
Producing this story was fun, but also challenging. Our original angle was to focus specifically on the new band director, but we were unable to set up an interview with him. Therefore, our plans changed. We decided to add in details about the halftime show and entering freshmen. We interviewed Olivia Jacquin and Max Ruether, two long-term members of the Marching Blue Jays.
Other than having to expand upon our original idea of just focusing on Mr. Lovell, the rest of the storytelling process came naturally. We had plenty of b-roll and sound bites, so our story flowed well.
We hope you enjoy watching our story as much as we enjoyed making it!
