WHS Food Pantry is Open
by Cason, Matthew, and Zach
We chose to produce a story about the WHS food pantry because we felt that most students didn’t have much information about it. We also thought it was just a really cool project happening on our own campus.
All three of us are first-year BJJTV staff members, and this was our first story without a returning staff member to help guide the process. We were excited to take on the challenge.
We set up an interview with one of the main pioneers of the food pantry, senior Sierra Smith, but due to scheduling conflicts, it did not work out. Luckily, we still found two very strong resources in Lindsey Jasper and Kristen Perriman. Thanks to their great interviews, we were able to put together a story that we feel really captures what the food pantry is, and what makes it great.
Since there is only so much you can video of the pantry itself, we had to be pretty creative with the b-roll. This included us filming kids in the hallway during passing period, collaborating with the Intro to Broadcast Journalism class, and even starring in the b-roll ourselves.
Overall, we’re very proud of the story we put together, and we hope it informs students who are in need of what the food pantry provides that this resource is available to them. Also, if you’d like to donate, talk to Lindsey Jasper or Kristen Perriman at Washington High School.
