WHS Period Pantry
by Colton Souders, Jack Lackman, and Matthew Amlong

When we were first choosing what story we were going to produce, this topic stuck out. So naturally, Colton proceeded to choose it. We actually agreed that it would be fun to flip the script by being a team of all boys reporting about a period pantry. We got a late start on the story, but it still turned out great.

When setting up our first interview, we wanted someone who knew how the Period Pantry started. We interviewed Abbie Vollmer who is in Interact club. This club started the Period Pantry. They felt it was something that could help our school more directly. She explained to us where they are located, and how they work. Abbie also suggested that we interview English teacher, Rachel Stahl, because she has a Period Pantry located in her room.
When we interviewed Mrs. Stahl, she stressed how important the box is to all girls. She gave us some good sound bites that we could use for our story. She did a great job of describing why the box is needed.

For b-roll, we filmed in Mrs. Stahl’s room as well as in the hallway. Thankfully, BJJTV staff members Emma Duncan and Morgan Gordy came in clutch to help film some more b-roll for us in the girls' bathroom and other locations we couldn't really go to because we are an all-male story team.

Overall, it was a really cool story to cover. We believe it's a good thing that we can share this story and hopefully more people, who possibly lack resources, will be able to use this. We are glad that we had the opportunity to learn more about the Period Pantry at WHS.
