Saying Goodbye to Volleyball

This year was my very last year of playing volleyball. Volleyball is my favorite sport. I love playing volleyball. I remember when I first started in 5th grade,  I primarily did it just for  fun and not to get too serious with it since I was more focused on basketball at the time. Once I kept playing volleyball, I fell in love with the sport and never wanted to stop playing beyond that point. I then joined a club team in 7th grade and instead of having basketball tournaments every weekend I was having volleyball tournaments every weekend all weekend. And I loved it. Joining a club team made me grow so close with a group of girls as well as continuing my love for the sport. Most of the girls I played club with also were on the middle school team, so when middle school tryouts came I was ahead of the game with already having a connection with some of the girls as well as an experience with already playing.
With how much I loved volleyball I never thought anything would get in the way of that. Of course anyone could come across a bad coach, unfortunately I did my sophomore year when I switched to a different club team. I had two coaches who made me feel terrible about my performance and grew to not like volleyball anymore which was very devastating since volleyball was something I would always look forward to everyday. At that point I contemplated everyday about quitting volleyball. I decided to try another year of school volleyball and switch back to my old club team to see if quitting is really wanted to do. I started to love playing again once I surrounded myself with the people who made the sport fun in the first place.

My senior year was this year. My last year. I never thought in a million years that the time where I am a senior with a senior night and eventually my last game would ever come. I strived to make this year the absolute best. Volleyball has always had unnecessary drama every year, so me along with the other seniors made it a point to not have any drama. We were blessed to have a great group of seniors and juniors who were all very close in the first place and also welcomed a sophomore to the group. We had a very successful season with a great winning record. For the district tournament we got a great seed and were set up to win the first round. Unfortunately, we had a very off game and lost, resulting in my very last game of my volleyball career and last game ever with the girls I played with for 8 years straight. It was a very emotional night for all of us and personally I cried so hard as if I had just gotten broken up with.
At the end of the day, I am so thankful I decided to not quit volleyball when I was thinking about it because the joy and success that came after that big slump in my career was well worth the fight.
